Ken is a retired fitter and turner and in 2014, to supplement his pension, he worked at a pool shop doing maintenance, filter and pump installations, sand changes, etc.

Kaye is a wife and Mom, comes from a Marketing background and wanted a meaningful job with the option to set her own hours.

The Magic Pump was an idea Ken had, born from frustration after doing sand changes which results in a sore back, wasted time and cut hands.

Ken thought, “There must be an easier way!”

After much trail and error and experimenting, eventually a prototype was developed.

Even Ken was suprised at how quickly it worked. It took just 13 minutes to pump the sand out of a 3 sand bag filter. No bending, no bruised hands.

Now it was a matter of finding the best materials – they had to be resistant to pool chemicals and be of good quality. Weight,size and ease of operation was also important.

Once the right materials were found and the business plan finalised, Kaye and Ken had to convince retailers that pool owners needed the Magic Pump!

In December 2015 Builders Warehouse and Builders Express were willing to test the product in some of their stores. It sold and customers loved it!

Builders sells it in the pool section under thier brand name, “BlueChem Filter Sand Extractor.”

Customer feedback made Kaye and Ken soon realise that the Magic Pump is not only a great tool for doing a DIY sand change, but it also an excellent drain unblocker, water transporter and general home-owner must have!
